This morning I read again in the Bible the story of the prodigal son. I love the part when the son is approaching his father's home:
"...while he was still a long way off, his father saw him coming. Filled with love and compassion, he ran to his son, embraced him, and kissed him."
Lately I've been noticing as I read the Bible that our God and Jesus are the ones pursuing us.
Here's another example from the Gospel of Luke:
" One Sabbath day as Jesus was teaching in a synagogue, he saw a woman who had been crippled by an evil spirit. She had been bent double for eighteen years and was unable to stand up straight. When Jesus saw her, he called her over and said, 'Dear woman, you are healed of your sickness!' Then he touched her, and instantly she could stand straight. How she praised God!"
She didn't have to seek out Jesus or beg that he heal her. He made the first move.
How precious!
Even in the Garden of Eden after Adam & Eve sinned, God sought them.
"Then the Lord God called to the man, 'Where are you?'"
This speaks to my heart and it amazes me that the creator of the universe actually desires a relationship with me! Sadly it took most of my life to change the image of God that was formed in my mind during childhood. But he never stopped pursuing me. Patiently and consistently he revealed his true love for me.
I am eternally grateful!
"May God, the source of hope, fill you with all joy and peace..." ~Romans 15:13
