A precious gift.

Maybe we didn't stop to calculate how much work it would be, but I still think it was worth the time and effort.

My two daughters and I decided to take their children and meet halfway to spend a few hours together. The place of meeting was a park, so that the children could release some pent up energy from the 90 minute ride.
We chose to have lunch at a local establishment just down the street. I will spare you the details and just say that I don't think the other patrons enjoyed being there at the same time as the seven of us.
I wouldn't say it was chaotic, but it the noise level was probably much higher than they were accustomed. After we finished our lunch there was an unpleasant incident with another customer who spoke her mind about the children.
Needless to say we all needed some fresh air, so we headed out to the backyard.

The 4 year old and the 17 month old were drawn to the water and ran onto the nearby docks. The moms were happy to let them burn off the ice cream Gramma had gotten for them.

As we stood there supervising, I noticed a small patch of yellow wild flowers growing at the end of the dock.

My 31/2 year old grandson didn't join the others on their adventure. To my surprise,  he had also noticed the flowers. I watched him squat and carefully pick a flower with his little sun tanned fingers. Proudly he held the flower out and trotted towards his mother, "Mama, this is for you!" She was elated and praised him for being so thoughtful.
I smiled as I thought to myself, "What a sweetheart! And such a perfect gift to receive after a highly stressful morning."
The boy again returned to the patch of flowers and picked another one. This time he came up to me. My heart melted as he stood in front of me smiling. His little hand gripped the precious gift and his bright blue eyes twinkled. He smiled and said, "Here, Gramma!".

I too praised and thanked him. My grandson watched as I fastened it to the strap of my purse proudly displaying my little yellow treasure. Then he ran off to join the other children.

The flower quickly faded, but the memory will stay with me for years.
