It was recommended that I write a letter to myself imagining that I was 80 years old. Here it is:
Dear Self,
The years fly by and there is no way to slow it down. So don't waste the time you have. Enjoy those grandchildren every minute you can. Invest time into people. Souls are what's eternal in this world. Nothing else.
Stay best friends with your husband. You have shared more life experiences with him than any other human. You have been through so much together and have seen the growth in each other. Long marriage is a treasure when you are friends & allies.
Don't worry about money. You are learning how your Father cares for you. Trust him, he will provide what is needed. He has a plan for you, so don't waste time on gaining income or things. Remember, humans are what's important. Treasure time with them and invest in relationships.
Continue to pursue your creativity. Don't be afraid to try new things. Be brave enough to put your work out there for others. God can use it, if you are willing. You have your own set of gifts & talent. You may not feel prepared when God's plans are revealed to you, but trust him that he has put you through the training you need to accomplish his will, with help of the Holy Spirit.
Don't be consumed with looking good. People are attracted to your spirit more than your physical appearance. Take care of yourself and live a healthy lifestyle, but don't stress if you put on a few pounds and get more wrinkles. We all age. Worry and stress quicken the aging process, so relax and enjoy life. Keeping in touch with your inner child also combats getting old.
Most importantly: Always take time for scripture reading, silence and solitude. In doing so, you will find it easier to commune with the creator. During that precious time you will come to know him more deeply. You already know that life isn't easy and it will not become easy in the future. So it is important for you to have a strong a faith, an unwavering trust and a passionate love for your Abba. With him holding your hand, you can make it through anything.
It wasn't long ago that you were finally able to grasp the truth that our Lord is the only one that can fulfill you and bring you true joy. Everyone and everything else will eventually let you down. Whenever you forget this fact you will start to become: depressed, stressed, dissatisfied, selfish and overwhelmed. He is the only source of true peace and contentment.
Never be ashamed of your emotions. Our creator is emotional. Continue to laugh, cry, smile, sigh, and even feel anger. But let your emotions guide you in the direction where God is leading.
Don't let them be used by the enemy.
Never let your numerical age control how you act, feel or keep you from growing.
Love yourself, but put others first.
