At the beginning of last year I made this my Facebook status:
As we enter into 2011 - "Leave the broken, irreversible past in His hands, and step out into the invincible future with Him." ~ Oswald Chambers
Someone challenged me and asked if I really believed that quote. I told them that I wanted to believe.
A year later I can honestly say that I do believe what Oswald said. The past can not be changed, no matter how badly we desire that. And the future is invincible = "Incapable of being overcome or defeated; unconquerable." There is nothing we can do to keep the future from coming. Time continues and will not be stopped. I am thankful that I have Him, my father in heaven, to walk with me.
Isn't it wonderful that even though we cannot stop time or our bodies from aging we are still able to grow and change?
God continues to renew us. Colossians 3:10 "Put on your new nature, and be renewed as you learn to know your Creator and become like him."
My change may not be noticeable to some, but I know that I have changed in the past year.
I feel it in my heart. I have a renewed comprehension of God's love for me. I have come to a place where it is much easier for me to trust Him and rest in His arms. I don't have to fear the future or worry about how others view me.
I am learning to face who I really am. As Brenning Manning says, "Getting honest with ourselves does not make us unacceptable to God. It does not distance us from God, but draws us to Him--as nothing else can--and opens us anew to the flow of grace."
I am being honest when I say that I am thankful for the difficulties in my life that have drawn me closer to our creator. I would not have experienced such intimacy with my Abba had I not experienced struggles that caused me to run into His arms. What a loss that would have been!
"Dear brothers and sisters, when troubles come your way, consider it an opportunity for great joy. For you know that when your faith is tested, your endurance has a chance to grow."
~James 1:2-3
As it says in Hebrews chapter 12, it is not pleasant to go through such things. But there is a treasure waiting for us as we endure difficulties in life...the peace of God!
We have no idea what 2012 will bring, but I have confidence in the One who has created time and everything in the universe. I have been made right with Him, because of the sacrifice of His son. And over this past year, my trust in Him has been deepened.
