memories
the older you get the more you have
Did you ever notice...
as time passes
the memories that seem to linger are the good ones
the negative, hurtful and painful memories tend to fade
I think this is a gift from God,
"He causes us to remember his wonderful works. How gracious and merciful is our Lord!"
Psalm 111:4
Most of our experiences contain both good and bad memories.
I remember the first day I wore a pair of downhill skis.
It was a very trying and painful day.
The fear of riding the chair lift. "What will happen when we get to the top?"
I didn't even know what it was suppossed to feel like to be able to ski. I fell getting off the lift. I got up, moved a few inches and fell again. This happened over and over and over. Finally my skis were taken off and we walked down to the lodge.
There was a thick tension at lunch time when we joined our group of six. Two of us were very upset and frustrated. Not to mention the patience of our spouses was growing thin. I was glad to know I wasn't alone in my misery.
We went back outside, this time to the bunny hill and not the chair lift.
Eventually we learned to make it down the hill without falling as often. We practiced stopping and making turns. And our spouses were free to ski as fast as they wanted.
The next day was a much better day for all of us.
Now that many years have passed.
I have forgotten how painfull all of the falls were.
I cried that day, but now we can look back and laugh. All of the bruises healed.
I am thankful that I didn't give up. The pain and agony from that day allowed me to experience many years of joy and pleasure from skiing. Our children also learned to love the sport.
We share many fond memories of skiing as a family in the mountains.
Life can hit us hard and we can find ourselves in a dark pit. We don't feel that we will ever see the light. All we see is the darkness and feel the sting of pain and hurt. God is questioned.
But time passes and healing happens. Someday we will look back and remember the good things that were mingled with the bad.
We will see how God used this in our life to bring us to a better place
~Closer to Him
and that is the best place of all.
